The Hidden Risks of an Atlassian Cloud Migration Without an Assessment
Enterprise migrations fail for predictable reasons. Here’s what an assessment surfaces before it becomes a crisis.
-
Identity Fragmentation
User management gaps, group mismatches, and org structure issues that break access controls and permissions after migration.
-
App Sprawl & Add-On Compatibility
Add-ons without Cloud equivalents, underused apps consuming licenses, and hidden migration blockers buried in your app catalog.
-
Scripting & Workflow Risk
Custom scripts and automation built for Data Center that won’t survive migration — mission-critical processes that need Cloud-native equivalents.
-
Compliance & Security Exposure
Compliance exposure from running unsupported or unvalidated systems — a growing risk for teams under SOC 2, ISO 27001, or HIPAA requirements.

The Assessment is Step 1 of Your Migration
Every Cloud Migration executed with Seibert follows six structured phases. The Assessment is where it begins — surfacing what needs to be resolved before a single piece of data moves to Cloud.
Step 1: Assess
The journey begins with a thorough assessment of your current IT landscape. Seibert’s experts conduct an in-depth evaluation of your server or data center instances, analyzing key elements such as system architecture, existing integrations, and user management practices.
Step 2: Plan
Once the initial assessment is complete, the next step is to develop a clear, actionable plan. This phase revolves around building a migration roadmap that minimizes risk while maximizing the benefits of a cloud environment. We’ll select a migration strategy and draft a runbook.
Step 3: Prep
We will review and clean up your existing servers or data centers to remove redundant, obsolete, or trivial data (ROT). This ensures that only necessary information is migrated, optimizing time and cost. We’ll also finalize the migration runbook together.
Step 4: Test
Before the full-scale migration, testing is essential to verify that all planned processes work as intended. This phase minimizes the risk of downtime and operational disruption. We’ll run pre-migration checks and complete user acceptance testing.
Step 5: Migrate
In this phase, we will follow the detailed runbook to systematically move data, applications, and configurations to the cloud. Seibert’s team manages the process precisely, ensuring minimal disruption to your operations.
Step 6: Launch
Once the migration is complete, the final step is to ensure that your team is fully equipped to leverage the new cloud environment with post-migration checks, user training and workshops, and ongoing support.

How SPIEGEL Group Became an Atlassian Cloud Fan
News media group SPIEGEL — publisher of DER SPIEGEL, Manager Magazin, and Harvard Business Manager — migrated 500 Jira users and 800 Confluence users to Atlassian Cloud. Initial data privacy concerns were resolved through close collaboration, and the team adopted the new environment faster than expected. “I’m now a fan of the Cloud,” says IT Project Manager Thorben Petersen.

GEODATA, a measurement and testing technology company, replaced their on-prem Jira Service Management instance with Atlassian Cloud for 500 users. The migration included SSO, two-factor authentication via Atlassian Access, and a structured user acceptance testing phase. “Our IT administration has become simpler, projects can be completed faster, and our productivity has increased,” reports Ahmad Rafi Masir, Head of IT Operations & Security.

VR Payment: Migrating a Regulated Financial Services Provider to Atlassian Cloud
VR Payment, a payment service provider with ~500 Jira and Confluence users, needed to migrate off Atlassian Server while meeting strict BaFin regulatory and European data residency requirements. Seibert guided them through a structured four-phase migration, from compliance analysis to execution, with full data preservation. “No matter which project — it always worked smoothly,” says Andreas Schmidt of VR Payment.

Uelzener Insurance migrated from Atlassian Server to Jira and Jira Service Management Cloud for their HR, IT, and Facility teams. Seibert addressed BaFin compliance concerns upfront with a dedicated data protection workshop and provided video-based training to ease adoption. “We had never done anything like this. The experience of our Seibert colleagues significantly reduced our anxiety,” says Marie Organiszak from Uelzener Insurance.
